The original recommendation states:
'This officer took over the duties of Quartermaster of this Regiment shortly before the outbreak of war and by his untiring energy and expert knowledge this Territorial Regiment was able to embark for the B.E.F. only a fortnight after mobilization was declared, fully equipped with all stores, vehicles and stores required in a unit on active service. Since arrival in the B.E.F. Lieut. Godwin has given most invaluable service in maintaining equipment at a high standard and helping each Battery with the many administrative problems, which are often unfamiliar and difficult to a Territorial unit expanded to war strength and sent abroad at very short notice.'
M.S.M. London Gazette - 3rd June 1919.
