The recommendation reads:
'On 27th March, Fusilier CARSON was acting as No.1 of his platoon mortar. His platoon was one of the forward platoons of "B" Company which was the forward company of the battalion, which was in a defensive position in the FOSSO DELLA CIOCOA. At about 1100 hrs his platoon came under heavy mortar and MG fire and grenades were thrown into the platoon position by Germans in dense scrub about 10 yards away from the forward section posts. From his own position Fusilier CARSON could not bring his mortar to bear on the attacking enemy, so quite regardless of the heavy mortar and MG fire and of the grenades which were falling all around him, he got out of his trench with the mortar, ran forward about 15 yards and started firing the mortar directly at the enemy in the scrub. During this time he was in the open, and fired no less than 22 HE bombs at the enemy quite regardless of the very heavy enemy fire which was immediately directed at him. By his action he contributed materially to the platoon's successful defensive action and a captured German prisoner subsequently stated that heavy casualties had been caused to his attacking force by Fusilier CARSON's mortar. He set a magnificent example to his company and bore a charmed life.'
He was originally recommended for a D.C.M for his actions but was awarded the M.M.
The medals are in good condition.
