Recommendation for M.I.D.
23rd September 1944, H.M.S. Valiant
When the structure of Admiralty Floating Dock XXIII collapsed, the ship sustained damage at forward and after ends. BOYDEN showed initiative and leadership on work of shoring bulkheads and decks to limit, as far as possible, flooding. He set a very fine example under difficult circumstances.
Recommendation for B.E.M.
15th March 1945, H.M.S. Valiant
The Chief Shipwright has shown the highest zeal and devotion to duty both during the period of repairs carried out at Trincomalee in August and September 1944 and during the passage to the United Kingdom, October to 1st February, 1945. He has shown excellent initiative and leadership under difficult conditions with an undefeated and cheerful spirit. I consider his work and example have largely contributed to the successful repairs and maitenance on passage which enabled the ship to make the passage to the United Kingdom.
