The C.I.E. comes in original Garrard & Co. Ltd fitted
case. The rest of the medals are swing mounted for wear.
Also comes with original award documents for his C.I.E.,
1935 Jubilee and 1937 Coronation medals, letter from the Commissioner’s Office
praising him for his work during the strikes at Jamshedpur, three letters of
testimonials dating 1936 and 1937 and three photographs of Murray (one in
uniform).
Colin Robert Baillie Murray was born on 12th February
1892 in India. He joined the Indian Police in November 1911 as Asst. Supt.
During the first world war he was in the Indian Army Reserve of Officers, Cavalry
Branch as a Captain. Murray then became Supt. In February 1923
In 1928 Murray was Supt. of Police, Singhbhum during the TISCO’s
strikes in Jamshedpur, where he was praised for his excellent work during this
time.
On the 13th June 1946 Colin Robert Baillie
Murray, now Inspector General of Police, Orissa, was awarded the Most Eminent
Order of the Indian Empire, C.I.E.
He died on 13th December 1979 aged 87 years.
