A second world war casualty medal group awarded to C/JX.140635 Leading Seaman Thomas John Cornelius, Royal Navy, who died when HMS Welshman was sunk by U-617. 

1939-45 Star unnamed as issued 
Atlantic Star unnamed as issued 
Africa Star (with North Africa 1942-43 clasp) unnamed as issued 
War Medal 1939-45 unnamed as issued 

Comes with original box of issue addressed to Mr G. Cornelius and condolence slip.

Killed in Action - 1st February 1943 

Thomas Cornelius was onboard HMS Welshman, a very fast minelayer used to supply Malta during the siege, when it was sunk by German U-Boat U-617 on 1st February 1943.
