George Brighton was born in 1898 in Hull. He was educated at Hull Trinity House School and attended Nautical school, deciding to pursue a career at sea with the Houlder Line Shipping Co. During the second world war he served on SS Marquesa as a Chief Officer and was awaded the MBE (Civil) in 1942. In March 1949, Captain Brighton was Skipper on the SS Clarepark, docked at Liverpool.
The medal is framed along with his certificate and a photo of him and his family.
