Killed In Action - 28th June 1944

Stanley Piddington enlisted into the London Rifle Brigade that fought as the 8th Bn Rifle Brigade. The 8th Bn landed in Normandy on 13th June 1944, one week after D Day. His brother, who served with the Royal Ulster Rifles and landed on D Day wrote a letter to Stanley welcoming him to Normandy and hoping they could meet up soon. Unfortunately the letter was returned as Stanley had already been killed.

The medals are in good condition and the group comes with the following:

  • Original condolence slip
  • Original box of issue for his medals addressed to his mother
  • Original letter from his brother with stamp returning it as recipient deceased
  • Original Imperial War Graves slip with his name on reverse
  • Original Order of Service booklet for the unveiling of the London Rifle Brigade Memorial in 1950
