Charles Henry Parker was born in 1852. He served in the 1st Royal Dragoons in ‘Home’ service from 30 April 1866 to 25 July1879. At some point he transferred to B Squadron, Oswestry Troop, Shropshire Yeomanry and due to shortages in the regular army was sent out with the Volunteer Service Companies to reinforce the regular Regiments.
His service record states the following;
S. Africa 26 July 1879 – 19 October 1879
E. India 20 October 1879 – 07 November 1880
Home 08 November 1880 – 27 February 1890 – Discharged with exemplary service in Shrewsbury in consequence of the termination of his second period of limited engagement and passed to reserve service.
He passed the Instructors course of Equitation at Canterbury in 1878/79 prior to deployment to S.Africa.
He was awarded South Africa Medal and Clasp 1879 and the Good Conduct Medal in 1884.
Parked then served as a Yeoman Warder from 22 April 1890, until he died in Beauchamp Tower 6 November 1911.
