Harry Penfield was born on May 24, 1924 in Canning Town, London.
In the 1939 Register he is shown living with his parents at 23 Woodstock Street, West Ham, London his occupation Paperboy.
He enlisted on December 7, 1942, his trade on enlistment shown as a Carpenters Mate. He was 5foot 6 inches tall, 36.5 inch chest, dark brown hair and brown eyes, of dark complexion with a birthmark on his right neck and scar on right cheek. His father, also Harry Thomas Penfield was living at 50 Dongola Road, Greengate, Plaistow, London E13.

He was promoted from Ordinary Seamen to Seaman on 11 June 1943, granted a 1st Good Conduct Badge on 7 December 1945, and released class A on 14 July 1946.
He married in December 1945. They had a son David John Penfield on 18 February 1948.
Harry died in Newham in April 1987
