British War Medal named to L.Z.1148 T.G. Emerson. Sig. R.N.V.R.
This is his sole entitlement as confirmed on the roll.
Thomas George Emerson was born on 29th December 1891 in Bermondsey to Robert & Ada Emerson in 1901 the family were living in 70 St. John Road East Ham.
He joined up on 16th December 1914 in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, London Division, he qualified as a Signaller in the RNVR, with service number LZ1148.
Thomas attended the Royal Naval Division Signal School as an Ordinary Seaman on the 16th & 17th March 1915. On the 21st April 1915 Thomas was posted to Pembroke I, with the trade of Signaller and remained on Pembroke I until 29th April 1915. On 30th April 1915 Thomas was posted to HMS Satellite where he was stationed until the 10th October 1919. He was promoted to the rank Able Bodied seaman on 15th December 1917.
HMS Satellite was a Satellite class composite screw corvette which was launched in 1881. From 1904 she was used as a drill ship for the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve and berthed in Tyneside, North Shields.
