KBE – 2nd January 1950 (CBE - 24th September 1941)
CB – 13th June 1946
MID – 1st January 1941, 17th March 1941, 14th January 1944

Davidson was commissioned into the Highland Light Infantry but soon transferred into the Royal Flying Corps. He was trained as a Pilot, serving with 80 Squadron (17/10/1916). On the 10/01/1917 he was appointed Wing Instructor in Gunnery (graded as a Flight Commander). In 1917 he was graded as a Squadron Commander and then Staff Officer 3rd Class 03/08/1918. 

After the war Davidson was granted a Temporary Commission as a Flying Officer (16/10/1922) which became permanent on 17/09/1924. On the 23/02/1923 he was posted to No.1 Sqdn as a pilot, serving in Iraq and Kurdistan. In 1928 he became a Flight Commander (No. 111 Sqdn).  On the 08/03/1934 he was posted to Palestine and Transjordan. 

In September 1939 Davidson was Air Attache in Warsaw. During this time he was a member of the committee in London that held talks in 1939 with delegates from Poland about the supply of Battle Hurricanes and Spitfires, but supplies failed to reach the country before the German victory. He became one of first Englishmen to be awarded the Polish Cross of Valour

He commanded R.A.F. Eastchurch (Nov 1939), RAF Brancote (Jun 1940),  RAF Lindholme (Aug 1941) and was posted to Middle East Command (1942) before being moved to Malta as A.O.A. at AHQ (Feb 1943) and later to Iraq and Persia as a A.O.C.. 

In 1944 he joined the Control Commission and by 1946 was Deputy Chief of Air Division, Control Commission, Germany. In 1947 he became Chief of Combined Service Division and the Director-General of Organisation.

Included are a full set of miniature medals which are in a box with the full size medals. The orders come in original boxes of issue.

His original log books, papers and documents are all at the R.A.F. museum but these have been photocopied and are included with the group with other copied research.
