A first world war medal trio awarded to SS.116282 Stoker 1st Class George Alexander Bridges, Royal Navy, who was severely wounded in action on 11th March 1917 after "Q" Ship "Wonganella" was in action with an enemy submarine.

The medals are in good condition.
Bridges was born on 30th April 1893 in Bristol.
Bridges was onboard "Q" Ship "Wonganella" going from Malta to Gibraltar, when at 9.30am on 11th March 1917, they sighted an enemy submarine to the Southward which immediately opened fire on them. Bridges was severely wounded in action, receiving a compound fracture of right thigh with two lacerated wounds and two lacerated wounds upon inner side of left knee.
The group comes with copy of CO's secret letter regarding Q Ship Wonganella's action with U-Boat on 11th March 1917 and the CO's narrative of cruise of Wonganella, ships log and action with U-Boat.
