The medals are in good condition and are swing mounted for wear.
Arthur Gilmer Smith was born on 20th April 1886 and entered service on 15th January 1904. He passed for Clerk on 15th January 1905 and for Paymaster on 20th April 1907.
He is confirmed on the 1935 Jubilee medal roll and is listed as Paymaster Commander. He retired as Paymaster Captain.
Gilmer's son served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy during WW2 and was awarded the DSC and was mentioned in despatches.
