Comes with original newspaper cutting which gives details of his Military Medal award.
    'He went over the top in the second wave, and was told along with another man to carry a box into the German second line. When they got on the top his mate was shot in the hand, and Private J.W. Mortimer dragged the box over No Man's Land by himself into the German first line, and then into the second line.'
    During an attack several signal linemen were wounded, and despite shell fire Private Mortimer volunteered o assist in laying out a line forward. The officer in charge and other men were severely wounded, but Private Mortimer attended the wounded for fourteen hours, inspite of the intense shelling by the enemy.


The medals are in good condition with ribbons.
