A first world war British war medal awarded to 8414D.A. Deck Hand Herbert Lancelot Matthews, Royal Navy Reserve, who was serving on HM Drifter "Ocean Star" when it was sunk after being hit by a mine from German submarine UC-50.

Killed by Enemy Action - 26th September 1917 

On the 26th September 1917, Ocean Star was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-50 (Rudolf Seuffer), off the Nab lightvessel. Lost with all hands, 10 in total.

The medal is in good condition.
