The medals come with his dog tags, Soldier's Service and Pay Book and other original documents.
George Verity was born on 4/8/1910 in Beverley. He worked as a steel render and fixer. After service with the Home Guard during the beginning of the war, he enlisted in the East Yorkshire Regiment on 29/6/1944. He served as a specialist anti tank unit / mine layer with the 1st Battalion.
The Battalion was based in Bethamangala as part of the 150th Indian Infantry Brigade, where it was reorganised in 1944 and trained in jungle warfare at the Jungle Warfare Training Centre, Gudalur, in the Mysore jungle and then played its part in the Burma Campaign. It moved into Burma, crossing the Chindwin River at Kalewa and the IrrawaddyRiver at Sameikkon in April 1945 and joined the 99th Indian Infantry Brigade, part of the 17th Indian Division at Meiktila after the siege by the Japanese had been broken.
