A first world war 1914-15 star medal trio awarded to Private William Danzie Perry, 13th (West Ham) Battalion, Essex Regiment. 

1914-15 Star named to 17419 Pte. W.D. Perry, Essex R. 
British War Medal named to 419 Pte. W.D. Perry. Essex R. 
WW1 Victory Medal named to 419 Pte. W.D. Perry. Essex R. 

The medals are in good condition with good lengths of original silk ribbons. 

William Danzie Perry was born on 1st March 1875 in Dunmow Essex. He was the eldest of five, a sister Florence and brothers David, Willis, Edward and Edevel. The 1881 census shows William as a scholar residing at Felstead. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 4 months Hard Labour at Chelmsford Crown Court on 16th October 1895 for stealing 43 live tame fowls from Kate Drake and four other counts of causing delay to 144 items of post whilst employed as a Letter Carrier for The Post Office. He married Ellen Rose Osborne in 1897, together they had 7 children, Ethel, Violet, Rose, Daisy, Ivy, George and William.  

William enlisted at East Ham into the 13th (West Ham) Battalion the Essex Regiment on 19th January 1915, at which time he was living at 68 Parkstone Road, Wood Street, Walthamstow, Essex with the trade of Coal Porter. He landed in France on 17th November 1915 as a stretcher bearer with the 13th (West Ham) Battalion the Essex Regiment. 

Medically evacuated on 3rd October 1916, spent time at the Depot and posted to the 1st Battalion before being re-posted on 9th April 1917 to 13th (West Ham) Battalion, the Essex Regiment. Posted to 11th Battalion, Essex Regiment on 11th February 1918. Admitted to 18th Field Ambulance RAMC on 21st April 1918 with gas poisoning. 

Transferred to the 1st Garrison Battalion, Royal Hampshire Regiment and transferred to the Reserve on 11th March 1919. Discharged on 26th May 1919. Re-enlisted into the Labour Corps the next day and renumbered 697646.

William died on 24th February 1955, outliving his wife Ellen who had passed away on 3rd March 1949.
